Contract with Black America: A New Historic Document for African Americans

By Barack Obama Mandela.

Preamble

We the people of the United States, in order to bring African Americans into a more perfect union, establish justice and opportunity for black Americans, insure tranquility in African American families and communities, promote the general welfare of black Americans, and secure the blessings of liberty of all African Americans and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Contract with Black America.

Corpus of Contract

As loyal and patriotic citizens of the United States, African Americans have formed a vital part of America since our nation was founded. Fighting in all major wars and military conflicts and building the nation during periods of involuntary servitude, African Americans through their blood, sweat, and tears have helped to build the United States into the world’s foremost democracy.

The providence of history necessitates the creation and establishment of the Contract with Black America to set out a concrete agreement between the United States and its African American citizenry.

First, we, the African American people, do hereby promise to remain loyal and patriotic citizens to the United States.

Second, we, the African American people, do hereby promise to protect the national and global security of the United States and preserve America’s national security interests.

Third, we, the African American people, expect to participate fully and completely in the American dream of freedom, prosperity, property ownership, educational opportunity, and personal fulfillment.

Conclusion

The African American communities of the United States seek to include this contract with the founding documents of our republic in order to demonstrate that African America is part and participle of the United States. As a single body, African America hopes to improve our quality of life and economic opportunity in the United States of America.

I call upon the Congressional Black Congress to adopt this document.
