How to use LMS to improve your employee’s skills

In today’s competitive world of business, you need to be good at what you do. If you are not you will find it incredibly difficult to attract new clients and retain the ones you already have. The only way to ensure that you provide the best possible service is to employ good people and keep their skills up to date. Increasingly, firms are turning to Learning Management Systems to do exactly that.

But not everyone is aware of this innovative training tool. So, if you have been asking yourself “what is LMS software? And should I be using it for my business?” all you need to do is to read on…

An easy way to make all of your training materials available online

For many decades, firms have used manual training materials that require someone to sit in an isolated training room to watch a video or complete a test. Using an LMS platform enables you to take all of that and make it available online. All you have to do is to upload it and set up access permissions. The next time you take on a new employee, they can complete the induction training from anywhere, which is ideal if they are currently working remotely.

Set up in house training

You can also set up in house training for your employees. In some cases, you will be able to use the training material that is included in the price of your LMS software. Most providers include a fairly large library of videos and tests that you can use to enable your employees to develop basic skills. Something that will save you the hassle of having to create them yourself.

Track progress

Once the training materials are loaded onto the system, you just need to decide who gets access to what. Doing this means that you are effectively creating a tailored training package for each of your employees. It is also possible for you, and them, to track their progress, to see which videos, gamified learning materials and tests they have completed.

Identify and quickly address skill gaps

If you notice that there are certain areas of the training that a lot of your employees are struggling with you can look into why that is. Often, you will discover that there is a gap in their skills. Once you know this, you can create a bespoke piece of training material that addresses that specific issue. However, it is important to understand that your LMS system will not be able to pick up all of the skill gaps. You will also need to use some, or all, of the techniques that are outlined in this article.

Use LMS to help you to hire the right people

You can even use LMS to narrow down your options when hiring people. It is relatively easy to set up a small test for each candidate to take.

What to do next

If you are interested in trying out LMS get in touch with a provider. Most of them offer you the chance to put together a package that is tailored to meet your needs.
