New massive riots provoke unrest in Ukraine

The governments new law is against manifestations and its already passed into force in Ucranain , as published by the official newspaper Golos Ukrainy ‘ . The law last week sparked a new social upheaval in the streets of the Ukrainian capital with hundreds injured and arrested. It continued Tuesday with hundreds of protestors clashing with the police in Kiev.

The new text includes stiffer penalties for protesters that could reach up to 5 years in prison. The  goal is to end protests all over Ukraine after two months of nonstop disturbances .

On Monday,  in an appeal to the people, the President of Ukraine, Victor Yanukovich, has warned that the demonstrators protesting  in Kiev have turned into massive riots that threaten to destabilize the entire country

“I was ready to hear your opinions and together find a solution ( … ) but now, when peaceful actions become part of mass unrest , with pogroms , arson and violence , I’m sure that would pose a threat not only to the order in Kiev Ukraine but for all, ” Yanukovych said .

So far the government has refused to consider the possibility of introducing a state of emergency to end unrest in the Ukrainian capital, although some voices from the Party of Regions (PR), say the ruling formation , appeals have been made to take such action .

“We ask the president of Ukraine, guarantor of the Constitution , to take tough measures in Kiev until the state of emergency finalizes to restore law and order ,” said Yanukovych who called on a group of deputies of the Legislative Assembly PR region of Lugansk.
